LAURENTIA TECHNOLOGIES SLL

Laurentia is a SME, specialized in R&D of new materials and technologies, capable of supporting companies and research centres to grow through innovation. It has a team of experts with relevant capacity in development of nanomaterials and coatings by sol-gel technology, and scale-up processes. It commits to safe and sustainable design as a pillar in the innovation process.

Main activities and roles in SUNRISE

Laurentia will contribute in WP5 developing a case study to test and demonstrate the IIAF for practical implementation by stakeholders, especially industry. The case study will be focused on innovative biodegradable nanocapsules as an alternative to microplastics for cosmetic and agricultural sectors. The main societal relevant will be to provide less toxic nanocapsules and coatings to those markets, keeping expected or improved functionality. The safe by design strategy will be based on the use of biodegradable and safe materials together with process optimization to reduce environmental and health impacts.

Meet the LAURENTIA team

Dr. María José López Tendero is CTO and co-founder of Laurentia from 2014. More than 30 years experience in wet chemical synthesis and development of nanomaterials and coatings. Wide experience as coordinator and participant of national and European projects. More recent projects related with SSbD subject are SBD4NANO, and SUNSHINE.

Dr. Alberto Lopera López earned both his M.Sc. in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2015) and his Ph.D. in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2019) at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol). His research experience includes the areas of inorganic chemistry, soft materials science, as well as nanoscience and nanotechnology. He is lead author and co-author of several scientific publications. In Laurentia has participated in European projects related to the safe and sustainable development (Safe By Design) of nanomaterials and nanocapsules such as SUNCOCHEM, SBD4NANO and SUNSHINE.

Celia Marina Silvestre Ramos provides more than 20 years as an R&D technician in the area of nanomaterials. In 2014 he joined LAURENTIA as Product Manager where he carries out work related to the development and manufacturing of high-performance hybrid coatings and microencapsulation systems. The lines of research in which he has specialized are encapsulation techniques in mesoporous materials (sepiolite and nanosilica), and synthesis of hybrid coatings using sol-gel, from modified siloxanes. He has extensive experience in participating in national and European projects, most recently highlighting the NANOTUN3D, SUNSHINE, SBD4NANO projects.
